Blue diamonds are among the rarest of the fancy colored gemstones, and two of them are expected to sell for tens of millions of dollars in the coming weeks. The first is the Royal Blue–a 10.6-carat cut-cornered, modified brilliant cut diamond that is just one step away from being classified as “internally flawless” by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The second, the Premier Blue, is a 7.59-carat round fancy vivid blue diamond that is both internally flawless and the largest round diamond of its kind to ever be graded by the GIA.
The Royal Blue is set in a platinum and rose gold ring and surrounded by vivid pink and white diamonds, and its asking price is $9.8 million (which is over $924,500 per carat). But even that pales in comparison to the Premier Blue, which is expected to be sold for around $19 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale in October.
