What Makes Selling Loose Diamonds Online So Special?

It is important to understand why you should sell loose diamonds online, rather than to your local, secondhand jeweler or pawn shop, so you can make the best decision for yourself, and get the best price for your unwanted diamond assets.

We have nothing against pawn brokers or secondhand jewelers; some even have excellent knowledge of the diamond trade, but selling to them may not be in your best interest.

These types of businesses are resellers, which means they need to make a decent profit on what they buy from you when they turn around and resell it. But on top of that, they are retail shops, which means they must cover the expenses of running a storefront long before they can make that profit.

The advantage of selling loose diamonds online to a service like ours is that we do not carry the overheads of a physical shopfront, which means we can afford to pay you more for your valuable diamonds, and offer free appraisals with complimentary shipping.

Other reasons to sell loose diamonds online to Diamonds USA include:

  • Up-to-date pricing – We can quickly adjust our prices to match changes in the diamond market, which physical shops can’t necessarily do on the fly.
  • Fast turnaround – Our interactions with people selling diamonds are instantaneous, meaning you could have the money in your account within 24 hours after sending your material in, without sacrificing on the price.
  • Fewer limitations – Because resellers need to make more money on a transaction, they are more picky about what they will take into stock. We have no such qualms, and will buy any and all diamonds, aside from synthetic ones or lab grown.
  • No pressure – You are under no obligation to accept our offer to purchase your diamonds, and if you choose not to, we will send your diamonds home with no further questions.
  • Professional appraisal – The exact market value of your diamonds will be determined by our certified appraisers, meaning that you get the best possible price for what you have.

What Determines the Value of My Diamonds?

There are four factors that determine the value of any diamond you wish to sell, more commonly referred to as the 4Cs: color, cut, clarity, and carat weight. It is important to note, when selling loose diamonds, that the 4Cs are not of equal value. For example, a diamond with perfect color that is badly cut will have less value than a brown (cognac) diamond with a perfect cut.

Color: “Normal” diamonds range in color from completely colorless to yellow (canary) or brown. Colorless diamonds are the rarest and most valuable, aside from naturally pink or blue diamonds, which are graded separately.

Cut: How a diamond has been shaped by the diamond cutter will determine both its shape and its quality. Not only does the cutter decide what form to give the diamond, but their skill and the care they take in cutting it will determine one of the important qualities that will affect the diamond’s value.

Clarity: It is very unusual to find what is called a flawless diamond. Most diamonds have some sort of imperfection, either inside the stone, called an inclusion, or on the surface, which is called a blemish. Most of these are impossible to see with the naked eye, but their extent will affect the overall value of the diamond.

Carat: The weight of a diamond is measured in carats, and is absolute. Unlike the other three factors, the carat weight of a diamond cannot be exaggerated or understated by a dishonest merchant or buyer. This is the basic value point for any diamond, and when you sell loose diamonds, the potential buyer will start with a market value based on the carat weight of your stones. From there, each of the remaining 3Cs will affect the final value of each individual diamond.
